ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS
The celebrates the official release of , a nine month trip across the globe making music on location with masters of local traditions. Each month will feature one country, sharing regional musical concepts learned and applied during the collaborations. This could include melodies, rhythms, harmony, tonality, techniques, arrangements, and chop technique...and probably a few stories.
Spotlight: SPAIN
The first few weeks of Spanish travel were spent in southwestern Spain, in the Andalusian city of Seville, a hotbed of flamenco tradition. In this workshop, we'll explore basics of flamenco bulería rhythm and bit of harmony. Then we'll take a traditional American fiddle melody and adapt it to our newfound bulería. If there's time, we'll even add a short flamenco farruca section to our arrangement. (To get a taste for the workshop, see my collaboration with flamenco guitarist Javi Gómez.)
ABOUT THE PRIVATE LESSONS
As an add-on to the workshop, five private lesson spots, 1/2hr each, are available on a first-come/first-served basis following the workshop. (See lesson time window above.) We can focus on any subject you like. Lesson+Workshop must be purchased as package. Upon purchase, you will receive a PDF with instructions for Lesson Signup and the workshop.

Recommendations
To get your ears tuned up and get a taste of what we'll work on, head over to the Otherlands Webpage for a choose-your-own-adventure style exploration of the musical collaborations. Each is paired with a blog if you want to take a deeper dive into the experience. If you're relatively new to chopping, I also recommend familiarizing yourself with and the accompanyingvideo (both free). Additional chop resources are my and Exercises & Grooves lesson series.
